This is a small group reader's theater. It was written for five students. It is made for a 4th grade reading level or higher but my 3rd graders did perform it. They needed extra help and practice time. In the story, Baker 1 is a poor but kind baker who is slowly going out of business. Baker 2 is a rich, greedy, and selfish person who is looking forward to being the only baker in town. But baker 1 has just invented sugar cookies in time for Valentine’s Day. When he gets the idea to create a Baker’s Dozen, selling his cookies turns his luck around!
My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone. If you like this script, visit my store and try some of my others. I have over 200! I use this reader's theater to introduce many subjects as well as to reinforce others and improve fluency. Reader's theater is a great way to motivate students to practice reading out loud. Small groups are the best way to practice reading because students aren't waiting to read their lines and spend more time reading and less time off-task. My scripts are in black and white with only the occasional color picture on the front which makes them easier and cheaper to photocopy and take less ink.
