This package contains several resources that can be used to introduce students to the big ideas of World War One. It is designed primarily for middle level students who have very little background on the subject. It contains a 37 slide PPT slideshow and an accompanying graphic organizer for student to take notes on. The slideshow contains several short video clips from Youtube as well as primary source images. The topics covered include the causes of the War, how the War actually began, the participants of the war, How the war was fought/ Soldier's life, new weapons of the War, America's involvement, and outcomes of the War. It then includes 16 questions at the end of the slideshow as an assessment.
A short role-play activity is also included to demonstrate how alliances work. An outline map is also included to provide an optional map activity.
Finally, response questions are included for a 45 minute WWI video. This video is a good follow up activity.
Depending on class period length and the length of class discussion, the slideshow typically takes 2-3 days.
