These questions focus on recognizing literary elements within the novel of The Battle of Jericho for pages 73-90. Questions ask about setting, plot, characterization, and conflict. This worksheet also includes some compare and contrast questions, as well as one mood question.

Sample question:
** What is the MAIN way that Kofi’s current thoughts about Dana trying out for the WOD contrast with those of the thoughts he had at the party at Josh’s house?

All of the assignments for my Battle of Jericho unit were taught to a 9th grade Intensive Reading class, but can be used for other middle or high school grades. Questions focus on reading skills like main idea, compare and contrast, cause and effect, making inferences, drawing conclusions, and text features.

These are not just basic questions about plot! Assignments for this unit are designed to guide reluctant readers through the novel, as well as focus on understanding and make deeper connections with the text.
