This Word document is a summary of the plot of the Barbara Kingsolver novel in "Fill in the Blanks" format. There is one page for each chapter of the novel (17).
Students can demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze test. This could be used for assessment or for revision.
Instead of giving students a summary of the plot as notes, I think that students learn better when they actively construct their own. However, for some students this can be a daunting task especially with a theme-heavy novel like this. I use this technique as a support to students to assist them write their own summary.
This is the type of activity that can be used again for revision. It's a great way to sum up without actually doing all of the work for them. And, they enjoy doing this activity!!
There is a word bank at the bottom of each page to help students. As this is a Word document, you could remove this to make the activity more challenging.
