Created by MzWeb's World, this is a theme unit based on the story The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas by John Barrett. Activities are designed for SLPs, but any special needs class could benefit. Printable activities cover:
vocabulary (context clues, graphic organizer, word
using context clues to determine word meaning
answering WH questions about the story
narrative skills (identifying story elements, retelling story with
parent/teacher handout regarding story elements
following 3 different types of directions with story manipulatives
articulation word lists from story
art projects including a hibernating bear picture (reinforcing science
concepts), and stitch-a-bear (reinforcing fine motor skills)
game directions and template: categories bingo (reinforce math
skills of number identification), and build-a-bear (reinforce body
several pages of directions, suggested extension activities, and
links to other resources online.
