This resource provides the user with a short explanation of how to use a character web to map the relationships between characters while reading the novel, 'The Beauty is in the Walking', and a web that has been started (examples of three central characters are included). The Web needs to be printed and then photocopied to A3 size in order for student to have enough room to map their understanding/responses.
Reasons to utilise a character web/map:
• They are a form of graphic organiser, great for visual learners.
• Shows the potential breadth of impact on characters (students consider a ripple effect).
• Students will develop a deeper understanding of the characters and the interconnection between the characters.
• Can be completed over an ongoing basis, effectively breaking up a potentially large and challenging task that students may believe to be overwhelming at first.
