- a student study guide of all 50 terms (called The Big 50)
- a 52+ PowerPoint presentation that previews all 50 items from the list
- 5 quizzes, ranging from 10 questions to 40 questions
- a summative test to be given after all items have been thoroughly covered in class.
50 critical terms, people, places, and events for students to know and learn from the ancient history unit in Social Studies.
Originally created and used for a 6th grade classroom, this bundle is designed to help scaffold key terms to students throughout the first semester.
GREAT for teaching students how to study, how to keep up with their terms, etc.
I created this review guide because my Social Studies team was struggling to cover all the content before the end-of-year standardized tests. I gave the Big 50 list to my students in the first week of school and told them it was their responsibility to keep up with the list and use it to study.
On the last school day of each month, August through December, the students would have a matching test on Big 50 items:
+ August - First 10 items
+ September - First 10 items, PLUS the next 10 items (20 total)
+ October - First 20 items, PLUS the next 10 items (30 total)
+ November - First 30 items, PLUS the next 10 items (in my class, I actually kept the number of questions at 30, and got rid of the 10 easiest terms that students never had problems with)
+ December - 40 items, PLUS the final 10 (Same as November, I kept the questions at 30, omitting the easier terms, but then added a page of "The Final 10" for dramatic purposes)
At the end of the year, after all terms had been covered in class, I also gave a final Big 50 test that is harder for some students. By the end of the year, however, I had seen tremendous success with using this. My students had learned the information in class already, but the Big 50 also gave it to them a second time on their own. I've used it every year since and have always seen positive results.
