This is a comprehensive NO-PREP, NO-PRINT lesson that addresses new vocabulary, use of context clues, story elements, story retell, comparing and contrasting, answering "wh" questions, and a review of sight words (Pre-K and Kindergarten lists). It is a great accompaniment to the book, The Biggest Valentine Ever by Steven Kroll (required for this companion) and follows the progression of the story to teach and encourage use of context clues, identifying story elements, story retell, and making logical predictions. This lesson is complete with learning goals and scales. I strongly recommend chunking this lesson into small digestible bites to address the concepts at a pace that is comfortable for all of your students.
This unit displays nicely on a Smartboard for whole group instruction, a tablet for small group lessons, speech teletherapy platforms, or it can be printed and used in your literacy centers. NOTE: that it is full-color and intended for use on digital media to keep students motivated and engaged.
This unit is complete with graphic organizers, learning goals and scales, vocabulary pre-assessments and an answer key for the comprehension questions. The slides are full-color and are intended for digital use but can be printed if you prefer. It includes a total of 40 slides and they display nicely on interactive whiteboards during whole group instruction, computers, iPads, and tablets during small group lessons, and speech teletherapy telepractice platforms for remote language sessions.
If you like this unit, please take a look at my "Expanding Sentences", "Spring into Language", "Animated Vocabulary", "Same or Different", "More or Less", "Rhyme Time", and "Can You Describe That" lessons which are great to continue teaching important language and literacy skills.
