This product contains five documents that I use when I teach Daphne Du Maurier's "The Birds" - a major part of this 'unit' is an essay where my students compare themes from the short story with themes in the movie "Signs"
The first document is a Cross-Curricular / Reading for Information activity / Research activity. It is one page and typically takes 30-55 minutes (less time if the kids work in pairs).
The next document is a note-taking tool. It serves as a guideline / graphic organizer for students to use while reading the story AND watching the movie "Signs" (with Mel Gibson).
Also included is a pre-writing activity to help students organize the information they've collected and begin planning their theme comparison essays. This activity also comes with an answer key.
Finally, The Birds and Signs Theme Comparison Essay Outline. This document is a guideline for the essay - listing what types of information should be found in each paragraph of the essay.
