Many people have poor vision and wear glasses, and some wear contact lenses as a solution for their poor eyesight. But how many of your students actually know how long humans have made use of corrective lenses and the history behind eyeglasses and contact lenses? This informational article clears up some of that mystery and provides an engaging way to learn more about eyeglasses.
This Common Core-aligned text is teacher and student-friendly and written for use in Grades 5-8. It can be implemented in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
The product includes:
1) An engaging 830-word informational passage called “The Birth and History of Eyeglasses.” Flesch-Kincaid Reading Level = 7.2
2) A total of 20 questions, from basic comprehension to critical thinking, written to align with Common Core Standards RI.5.2, RI.5.3, RI.6.3, and L.4.5.C
