Although this movie is graphic and filled with historically accurate language, this is a great resource for teaching the slave rebellion of Nat Turner.
The film is based on an enslaved, literate preacher who led a slave rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia, in 1831. Samuel Turner, a financially pressed plantation owner accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As Nat makes travels around the South he witnesses countless heart-breaking atrocities against himself and his fellow slaves. Through his faith, Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
