This is a lesson plan designed for teachers in a general education or alternative classroom who need to give heavy accommodations and support in order to ensure that all students are meeting Common Core grade-level standards in a mixed-ability environment.

It allows for the level of accommodation and support to be adjusted according to student need, and varied among students. It gives a variety of pre-reading and post-reading activities to choose from so that you can tailor the lesson plan to the time period and classroom environment.

Use with the leveled and supported readings of "The Black Cat."

Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.
Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
