This set of 2 creative projects explore author technique through a literary characteristics study of the novel, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. Both projects explore and teach the literary techniques of mood, tone, symbolism, narration, and color theory, culminating into beautiful representations of student understanding of technique and effect. Project one requires students to create fragmented, symbolic color-association poetry, while the other requires students to craft an "Alphabet" book collage to explore and analyze mood and tone techniques through word choice and tone. This is a positive hit with students, easy to implement and teach throughout the novel, and can be used as either formative or summative assessment tools, cooperative learning literature studies, independent activity, or whole group instruction through modeling. This is a growing resource and an excellent addition to this fantastic novel!
