After reading a portion of the novel, The Book Thief, students will participate in an engaging text analysis challenge. Once students have completed the questions, they will bring their answers to the teacher. Once students have answered all questions correctly, they will write their name and their completion time on the board.
This activity functions wonderfully as a competition, but it can also be used in a non-competitive sense. Students can be required to work alone or with a partner. Typically 10 minutes would be the average amount of time needs for all students in a class to respond to these questions, but teachers should feel free to shorten or lengthen the duration of time students have to complete the activity.
