This lesson plan allows students to look at several different pieces of evidence in determining the guilt or innocence of the British soldiers involved in the Boston massacre. Students will look at historical paintings of the event, read primary source accounts from the trial, and view scenes from the HBO mini-series "Adams" to help them make their verdict.
My students love this lesson because the event comes alive and it allows them to relive the Boston Massacre from the perspective of the people that were actually there. It is always interesting to watch student opinion slowly start to change as more evidence is introduced. If you are studying the causes of the American Revolution, use this lesson to help your students become completely engaged!
(There is a powerpoint that I use to show the paintings for this assignment. If you would like the powerpoint after you have bought the lesson, send me an email and I will send it your way).
