The Boy Who made Dragonfly by Tony Hillerman is a GREAT novel written at a middle school level (great for high school students to ease their way into procedure rather than content).
According to scholastic "Interest Level Grades 6 - 8 Reading Level Grade level Equivalent: 7.1 & Lexile® Measure: 1090L"
My students read The Boy Who Made Dragonfly as a way of getting introduced to Native American culture. This essay is their culminating project. They show that, in addition to plot, they inferred more information about the historical and cultural background.
The theme of the story is great for Thanksgiving (it is one of sharing) or autumn overall (harvest). Also great for a background of the Zuni Tribe.
