Product Description
This is a complete unit focusing on higher-order thinking that can be used with students as they read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Feel free to use these questions as you see fit in your classroom; for example, have your students present their answers to the class via Prezi, PowerPoint, or through a multi-genre research project. Or, more traditionally, give these questions to your students to answer as they read the book.

This project includes 10 questions that students can work on as they read the novel. These questions encourage students to think deeply about the book and make inferences along the way. These are time-consuming questions for the students, you can easily adjust it to fit every student level in your classroom. It allows advanced students to really explore the novel at a deeper level. Those who are struggling can participate in oral discussions and answer literal questions throughout this project. If they are not ready for higher order thinking, they can pick and choose a few questions and see where they can go with them. We have also included a rubric based lightly off of the Minnesota States Standards to use in grading the responses to the questions.

I have found this book to be a favorite fiction book of students with a wealth of information that stretches a student’s way of thinking. You will see them struggle and ask a lot of questions because they are so used to the answer being right in front of them. I push them, and in the end they are always so proud of the outcome.

Have fun with this project; it is one of my favorites and also a favorite of my students. I love seeing them struggle, collaborate, and then feel success.
