Students read and annotate three texts (links to texts provided):
-“Meng Jiangnu’s Bitter Weeping”, Chinese Great Wall legend
-“Mending Wall” poem by Robert Frost
-“Panoramic Wall Photos Examine the World’s Most Volatile Borders” news article by Rebecca Horne
Then, students answer three questions about the purpose and effects of walls as an assessment, in which they must cite from these sources as evidence for their arguments. This is a Common Core State Standards-modeled Performance Task assessment and will prepare them for the SBAC Assessment.
