This bundle consists of five lessons. It is intended to be used as a supplement to an existing textbook unit or chapter, not as a stand-alone unit. The first lesson in it uses a "narrative input" GLAD strategy for introducing students to how gold was discovered in Northern California. It focuses on names, dates, and facts. In the second lesson students become prospective miners as they play a "Choose Your Own Adventure" style game during which they discover that prospecting was dirty work, and more money was actually generated by the entrepreneurs profiting from their needs. In the third lesson they write a persuasive letter to their parents from the perspective of a teenager yearning to go find their fortune in California. The fourth lesson has students comparing and contrasting two famous entrepreneurs of the time: Domingo Ghiradelli and Levi Strauss. The final lesson focuses on summing up the causes and effects of California's gold rush and includes a quiz. The individual lessons are also posted separately in my store.
WARNING - The "Choose Your Own Adventure" game will only play in Powerpoint, not in Google Slides.
