One of the parts of teaching Fourth Grade in California that I love is a project about California! Before I was a teacher I thought everyone in California built a mission as their project. Then my oldest son had a teacher who was creative, excited, and so enthusiastic about California it made her students excited as well. She let the students choose any project they wanted that represented something they love about California. My son built AT&T Park in San Francisco.
When I made a version of this project for my own Fourth Grade class several years ago, it amazed me! The kids were creative and we had the best display at Open House. Yes, we had a mission, but we also had Alcatraz, a book of travels with pictures of my student, the Hollywood sign on hills, the Monterey Bay Aquarium.. and so much more.
Included in this packet is a description of the project with the choices, a rubric, note taking sheets for in class or at home, and choice selection cards. I left this in Word format so that you can customize dates and points to your class.
