Many elementary math teachers are unsure about whether or not they should use manipulatives in their classrooms, due to the time constraints they face. This is a paper I have written regarding the rationale for using manipultives. It includes important information about the professional, theoretical and research support for the use of manipulatives in the elementary math classroom.
