Reinforce the important comprehension skill of recognizing cause and effect relationships by having your learners complete this activity. After reading The Cat in the Hat, by Dr. Seuss, have your learners re-read to find story details that have a cause and effect relationship. Then they match up the causes and effects.
This activity can be done whole group using your smartboard to display the graphic organizer. Have small groups work together to match up the cards and then ask volunteers to write the sentences in the correct places on the organizer. This is a great activity for the second reading of a close reading lesson!
It can also be done individually to assess comprehension.
