Students will complete a chart analyzing seven themes within the novel. They will explain the theme, identify where the theme presents itself in the novel by providing a quote, and then analyze the quote to show its impact and how it helps support the theme. Once students have completed the chart they will practice formal paragraph writing with an open ended response relating to the themes.
This also works as great partner work. Assign half to one side of the room and the other half to the other for homework; the next day have them pair up an teach each other the themes they covered.
A PowerPoint to help guide the review is also available, which includes other questions to get students thinking about the themes and the relevance to the novel
