Product Description

This essay is for classes reading The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. The novel quotes T.S. Eliot's famous poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and after reading the poem's introduction in the novel, I pause the class and we read and do an interpretation of the entire poem.

This can be done as a whole-class discussion, individual, or in groups.

After students finish the novel, bring them back around to Eliot's poem with this summative assessment demonstrating their mastery of analysis of text. Students analyze the thematic motifs within the novel and tie them to the thematic motifs in the poem in an essay of 2-3 pages. Is currently written for no technology, but can be easily adapted to use it.
