This set of materials has been compiled in order to to aid in designing a 7-8th grade unit of study on the Civil War. It includes the following:
1 Mission Statement: an editable Word document that serves as the window into the unit for students and parents. Each Mission statement includes a mini-calendar of unit events, a lesson breakdown, daily homework assignments, and the Daily Assessments of understanding for each lesson that can be used as ticket-out-the-door/data driven instruction.
1 Unit Vocabulary Handout: On the front are around a dozen key content terms that students can write down at the start of each lesson. The definitions are in the corresponding PowerPoint presentations of the unit. On the back are two or three academic vocabulary terms that apply to certain lessons but have cross-curricular applications (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.6-8.4).
9 PowerPoint presentations: each slideshow has been designed to serve as a mini-lesson plan. They each include an opening question geared towards activating prior knowledge and piquing interest in the topic, content and language objectives (for ESL students), content and academic vocabulary definitions, various charts, images, explanations regarding the topic, and a daily assessment of understanding of the topic.
3 ActivInspire Digital Flip Charts: Compatible with Promethean Boards only. Compliment certain lessons and have been designed to aid in completing handouts in class by placing interactive versions of the handouts into the flipcharts.
11 Microsoft Word-generated Handouts: Each handout has been numbered in order to match it to its similarly numbered PowerPoint and Flip Chart. Though certain handouts have been designed to compliment Prentice Hall's America: History of Our Nation textbook, they are all editable and can easily be adapted to your textbook.
1 Reviewing the Key Facts handout: This homework assignment has been carefully crafted to serve as a thorough review for the unit test. Again, it goes along with Prentice Hall's America: History of Our Nation textbook but can be easily edited to fit your textbook of choice.
