In order to truly understand the Civil War, students will have to read, study, and annotate President Lincoln's speeches both before and during the war. This interactive notebook provides either the entire speech or an excerpt of the following key speeches: A House Divided, the First Inaugural Speech, The Emancipation Proclamation, and The Gettysburg Address. The speeches provide a critical insight into President Lincoln's motivation and war fighting strategy as the war progressed. The interactive notebook format provides the student with an opportunity to examine the speech with a variety of perspectives and differing levels of rigor, thus providing the teacher with an opportunity to differentiate in the classroom as needed. The interactive notebook provides an answer key to support the use in the classroom by any teacher or substitute teacher.
