The Classroom Procedures Game is a simple, yet effective game I use to motivate my students to continuously practice our classroom procedures to perfection. It serves as a visual reminder for the students as well as myself as the teacher.
The Classroom Procedures Game is perfect for any teacher who gets a little first day jitters or feels overwhelmed with everything you have to cover the first weeks of school. I love it because all I have to do is look at the visual classroom procedure "app" icons to remind myself of every procedure I want to teach, model, and practice with my class.
The object of the game is to get the game pieces aka the classroom procedure "apps" from "iPractice" to "iKnow." (Download the preview to see classroom photos of display ideas.) I model the procedure and the class practices again and again over the course of weeks/months. Once the desired classroom procedure becomes a natural routine, the classroom procedure app is moved from "iPractice" to "iKnow."
Once the "iKnow" is filled up, celebrate with a party or big incentive! For younger students, it may be wise to set mini-goals to celebrate small successes.
Paper-saving option: You could make this on your interactive whiteboard or SMARTboard by screenshotting the apps and creating a t-chart document where the students slide the app to iKnow once they've mastered the procedure.
