Everything you need to prepare students for reading The Clay Marble by Minfong Ho! This Common Core aligned resource provides students with a strong foundation for reading The Clay Marble. Each pre-reading activity is designed to meet the needs of all levels of students.

Cambodia Map Lesson & Outline Map:
The map directions are written for students to be able to follow independently and complete at their own pace. Students are required to identify and color code Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, the Mekong River, Cardamom Mountains, Tonle Sap Lake, the South China Sea, and the Gulf of Thailand. Colored pencils are needed to correctly complete the map.
Cambodia Reference Map:
The included full color reference map can be projected or copied for students to use as a guide when completing their maps.
The background informational text is broken into four different sections: geography, history, the Khmer Rouge, and genocide. Each section requires students to sketch word meanings and identify the topic, main idea, and key details.
Background Text Answer Key:
An answer key is provided for easy grading or use with a substitute teacher.
A divided circle map is provided for students to learn ten new words present in the The Clay Marble. Each divided circle map requires students to define the word, provide a synonym, write a sentence, and sketch a picture to illustrate the meaning of the word. Students will need access to dictionaries or the internet to complete the vocabulary practice pages.
