Hammurabi is such an interesting study. The rules he created sound so brutal compared to our modern laws. This is a great time both to examine the code through current lenses and to imagine the context in which it was originally written.
I provide excerpts that try to give a wide variety of the code on three pages. Laws are numbered. The full text is available online as part of the public domain if students wanted to explore further.
I find that some students easily gravitate towards one law they absolutely hate or agree with. Some naturally consider context and others do not. Others would rather oppose or support a wider type of law (for instance support the employment law or disagree with all capital punishment). I think this activity is easily adaptable to all of those situations.
