If you are interested in teaching about Hammurabi’s laws, but don’t want to mire through nearly three hundred laws, check out this primary source guided reading. Your students will read through a selection of 34 laws with questions along the way. This will cause them to stop and think as they read. I also like to start this activity in class with my students and talk through the first few to get the students thinking. Hammurabi’s harsh justice is a bit foreign to students who are used to fair, humane laws.
As a bonus, this primary source guided reading includes a page of analysis questions.
