This Cold War Preview Collage can be used in a variety of ways. It can be completed in small groups, in pairs, or individually. It was designed to be done by students who are just beginning to learn about, or previewing the material, but for lower level students, it could also be used as a unit assessment.
With this collage, students will preview material about the Cold War Era by researching and creating a collage of primary source images. Topics include: NATO and Warsaw Pact alliances, the United Nations, the Crisis in Cuba, the Korean War, the Space Race, and many other subjects typically covered in a US History or World History Cold War Unit.
The common core ELA History/Social Studies Standards that this project addresses are:
Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem.
Integrate information from diverse sources, both primary and secondary, into a coherent understanding of an idea or event, noting discrepancies among sources.
