This engaging and effective activity is easy to set up, simple to use, and can be used for test prep or review. Students will love the activity! You will love seeing the whole class actively thinking and participating - the key to learning! Differentiation is implemented through varying versions of the game, so all levels of learners are reached!
How to play:
Students are broken into groups of two. One student in each group will be designated as the clue giver (they look at the PowerPoint projection), and the other student will be the guesser (they should be facing away or unable to see the projection). The activity has three versions, so all levels of learns can be reached (differentiation) -
Catch-phrase - verbal clues are given to help the guesser correctly guess all terms in the History House.
Pictionary - picture clues are given on paper or dry-erase board to help the guesser correctly guess all terms.
Charades - students act out the terms to help the guesser correctly guess all terms.
The teacher should tell the students which version to play, then put up the projection. Students will work to help their teammate guess all the terms in the House of History. The first team to identify all six terms wins. I allow students to play until five teams are finished. Then, each team switches their role (guesser become clue giver and vice versa) and the next projection is put up.
