The Cold War Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is a 14 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teacher’s key for easy marking. It contains 40 questions based on a Crash Course U.S. history video and the history.com website.
Students will begin this assignment by watching the Crash Course U.S. history video:The Cold War. The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of the time. The end of World War 2 and the collapse of the Allied/Soviet alliance is first discussed in order for students to understand the two sides during the Cold War. The expansion of communism, American efforts to contain it, the Marshall Plan, the Truman Plan, and the arms race are all reviewed so students can understand their significance. The division of Germany, the Berlin Airlift, and the Berlin Wall are also covered. The video also talks about the "hot" wars of the Cold War- Korea and Vietnam. Finally, the video covers the domestic impacts the Cold War had on America- the Red Scare, the creation of the Interstate Highway System, and the massive government funding of the sciences and weapons industries. Following the video, students will travel to the history.com website and read an article about the Cold War. The article does a good job at covering many of the topics from the video in greater detail, such as the causes of the Cold War. The article also takes an in depth look at the Space Race. The article concludes with how the Cold War ended- the collapse of the Soviet Union after the introduction of glasnost and perestroika.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
