The Colors of Christmas
This song was written for the choir to sing on risers with props to add the colors as they are sung in the song.
There are several different props that you could use to add the color.
- Gymnastics ribbons are beautiful and easy to add. Use the ribbons with 8-12 children on the front row of the risers. Line them up with the 2-3 red ribbons together, 2-3 green ribbons, 2-3 gold and 2-3 silver. They could use a different pattern for each verse. The back rows of the choir could be given shorter ribbons to add to the last chorus. Scarves can be used the same way as ribbons. Purchase lengths of chiffon from a fabric store and cut into pieces about a metre long. Verse 1: Circles Verse 2: Figure 8’s Ending: Wave in the air
- Use colored transparencies on an overhead projector to project different colors of light.
- You could give every child in the choir a balloon on a stick. These will even look a little bit like Christmas lights. Chorus: Bar 3 - Back row raise balloons Bar 5 - Row 3 raise balloons, Bar 7 - Row 2 raise balloons, Bar 9 - Front row raise balloons. Balloons down on beat 3 of bar 10. All greens up on Bar 11, Reds up on Bar 13, Gold and Silver up on Bar 15 - wave Left/Right. Bar 3 - Back row raise balloons Bar 5 - Row 3 raise balloons, Bar 7 - Row 2 raise balloons, Bar 9 - Front row raise balloons. Balloons down on beat 3 of bar 10. The Colors of Christmas is part of The Christmas Concert Idea Book, which is a collection of mini-plays, skits and songs, each of which is suitable for a K-6 class (or choir) to perform at a Christmas concert. It also includes a school-wide production that incorporates each song from the collection and includes interactions with students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The production is set up in such away that it helps the school to maintain a common theme throughout, while also allowing each class to practice and perform their selection on their own.
