Focus on the causes and effects of The Columbian Exchange with this differentiated informational text and graphic organizer. This is a great lesson for introducing students to the Columbian Exchange or Triangle Trade, which would transition perfectly into a unit on the 13 Colonies!
The lesson begins with informational text focusing on the causes and effects of The Columbian Exchange. The text is differentiated for three levels of readers: proficient, developing, and emerging. After reading each paragraph, students are instructed to draw or sketch the main idea. Transforming the text into pictures adds an additional learning modality to the lesson, and helps students to integrate the new information. In order to summarize learning, students complete a cause and effect flow chart that requires them to refer back to the text to complete. ***Paper PDF AND Google Drive Resource Included!***
