2.NBT.7: Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds.
This packet is a painless way to get started with the math common core state standard 2.NBT.7. It will help you make informed decisions on how to best teach the concept of addition and subtraction within 1000. Classroom activities and student learning targets are suggested. A short assessment that can easily be used as a pre-assessment as well as post-assessment is part of this package too. Finally the journal prompts, which come in a variety of formats, can be used as learning tools in students’ journals or as an exit slip to equip you with valuable formative assessment data.
Journal prompts can be used in Daily 5 Math for “Math with Someone” or “Math by Myself!”
Check out the center game that supports this standard too!
