Not only is this a great book, but it has a great message of life and loss, all told through the eyes and heart of the main character. This book is the 2015 Newbery Award Winner for good reason!
This reader response book is part of a larger literature unit I have created for this book!
To assemble the book, copy the following pages back to back:
- End of book/Cover AND p. 1 and p. 14
- p. 13 and p. 2 AND p. 3 and p. 12
- p. 11 and p. 4 AND p. 5 and p. 10
- p. 9 and p. 6 AND p. 7 and p. 8
I use the long-arm stapler to keep the pages together (just fold the copied pages in half and staple on the fold line).
This response book is a great way for students to respond to text with textual evidence and while making connections to what they are reading. Students can respond in many different ways.
This is a fantastic book for boys who are reluctant readers!
