This anticipation guide encourages students to explore their thoughts about the themes and topics presented in The Crucible before they begin reading. Students are presented with 10 statements. They must choose whether they agree or disagree with each statement. A column for maybe is included with instructions that students may only select maybe once. The document is editable, so you can alter instructions and columns if you would like.
An anticipation guide is an activity designed to hook into students' prior knowledge and beliefs prior to reading. The goal is to challenge students' preconceived notions and increase curiosity about the reading.
This anticipation guide should take up an entire lesson--if you have an opinionated class, you may need more time. You may choose to have students write a sentence or two in support of their positions or keep the entire activity discussion-based.
This Crucible Anticipation Guide is fully editable, so you can add or edit statements as you see fit.
