This is a great pre-reading activity. Students will be asked to agree or disagree with statements that relate to themes or controversial topics presented in The Crucible by Arthur Miller.
Then students will have to choose one of the statements with which they strongly agree and a statement they strongly disagree and write a well-developed paragraph (for both) explaining their feelings about the statements. This assignment includes an outline for the well-developed paragraphs as well as a rubric to grade the assignment.
This assignment leads well into a socratic seminar or fish-bowl discussion.
