This is an introductory anticipation activity for The Crucible, taught before students start reading the play.
The classroom activity will familiarize students with the main themes of the novel via kinetic class polling and discussion. The thematic statements used in the discussion are presented on a PowerPoint that will engage visual learners.
The questions are designed to be thought provoking, so the discussions can get heated. Because of the kinetic aspect of the student polling, students often refer to this activity as a "game" even though it is just another form of discussion! Once you've done this activity once, don't be surprised if students start asking you to "play the red card, green card game" again.
