This is an essay assignment that I used with my Eleventh Grade English class this year after reading and watching the Crucible by Arthur Miller. This assignment could be used after reading the play, watching the film, or both. Its main prompt asks the students to examine who or what is ultimately responsible for John Proctor's death. The assignment includes a graphic organizer and class discussion prompts with possible answers (these can be deleted and filled in by your class--I always post as word docs so you can edit them for your own classes.) The assignment itself is scaffolded for standard level students who struggle with organization-- these scaffolds can be removed for more advanced learners.
