I used this activity to give students practice identifying evidence that BEST supports a given claim. For this reason, all of the claims and evidence are related (all are about Muslims who fought in the Crusades).
I printed the various claims on different colored cardstock paper than the various pieces of evidence, so that students could easily identify which was which. Then I cut them up and put each set into a small ziplock bag. Students then worked with partners to decide which piece of evidence BEST supports each claim.
After a few minutes, we discussed each one and if students had differing responses they had a chance to explain their reasoning before I gave them the correct answer.
Really helped illustrate the idea that given the claim, some evidence is far better than others!
(Answers: The first claim matches with the first piece of evidence; the second claim goes with the second piece of evidence; etc.)
