If your students have enjoyed my other ice-breaker activity, The M&M Game
, they are sure to be sweet on The Cupcake Game, which is played in a similar way. Both of these activities are fun to do in the early weeks of school. They give students practice speaking in complete sentences and listening to each other, skills than can be rusty after a long vacation. They also help build community as students learn about each other and what they might have in common with their classmates.
The Cupcake Game comes in 2 formats, so everyone can play! There is an interactive version for the SMARTBoard, and a projectable/printable PDF one. In the SMARTBoard version, students choose one of a large display of 32 cupcakes. Each cupcake is linked to one of 8 different questions about themselves.
In the pdf version, there is a large cupcake display with the questions beside each type of cupcake. This is intended to be displayed with a projector, if you have one. There are also smaller printable cupcake question cards, (so no projector necessary), and individual cupcake cards to pick out of a bag, to determine which question to answer. Complete directions are included.
If your school allows, following up with mini-cupcakes would be sweet!
