This is a paired text reading and writing project. The premise is for students to take on the role of a new employee at Hallway Cards. The company is looking for a way to increase Valentine card sales. The new employee has been put in charge of the Cupid Campaign which is researching the pros and cons of putting the handsome winged-man or the cute diaper wearing baby image of Eros (Cupid in Roman Mythology) on the fronts of the cards. Then, the employee needs to persuade the boss into using the version s/he likes using text based evidence.
Extension ideas: Students can make Valentine cards with the new Cupid Campaign look. Students can create store front posters to advertise Hallway Cards' new line of Valentine's Day cards.
