With the development and spread of electricity, many new products began to flood the market. Advertising agency’s no long just informed the public about products and prices, they hired psychologists to study how to appeal to people’s desire for youthfulness, beauty, health, and wealth.
This mini-project will expose students to actual advertisements from the 1920s.
In this project students must:
-Create a PowerPoint slide describing their advertisement.
-Use an inflation calculator to figure out the price conversion to today.
- Determine how the advertisement appealed to people’s emotions in the 1920s.
- Determine the products target audience.
- Determine, from a website, what advertising techniques were used to sell this product.
This is a great opportunity to deviate from the textbook and get your students to work with some actual documents from the 1920s.
My students enjoyed this and I am sure yours will too!
