PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

For my blog post with complete directions and ideas for this product, check it out at my website: www.imthatteacher.com/the-day-the-music-died

We absolutely must explicitly teach comprehension strategies. Schema, making connections from the text, is the first step. When I want to know if my students are making solid connections, I give them a text they haven't seen before. This product is a list of texts you students may have heard but probably not studied in depth before!

I use this list of 28 songs and the events they're based on to asses my students' understanding of text to self, text to text, and text to world schema. Simply, it's a fun way to integrate music, research, and new texts they haven't played with yet.

This is a one page PDF document that contains all 28 songs, their artists, and the historical event or societal trend the song is based on. It spans events like the Kent State shootings, WWII, and yellow journalism.
