This activity is designed to expose upper elementary students to the Declaration of Independence without overwhelming them with the complicated wording and all the details.
This activity includes the entire Declaration of Independence, but breaks it up into manageable chunks and directs the students' attention to the more famous sections and important phrases. Students will label the various sections, highlight particular parts and answer questions based on what they have previously learned about the Declaration and what they read of it.
This activity is best when completed with teacher guidance and when discussion about the sections is promoted. It works well when the students complete it with a partner.
The goal is to help your students understand the Declaration of Independence and appreciate it without them drowning in all the big words and concepts!! Hope it helps!
*Students will need a highlighter!
