Part 1 has a word bank with 12 examples of figurative language Bowen uses in her short story "The Demon Lover"... parallel structure, alliteration, flashback, repetition, contrast, pun, foreshadowing, personification, metaphor, oxymoron, simile, and irony. The students have to match these terms to their definitions. In Part 2 the students match these terms to general examples of the same figurative language; in Part 3 students identify 30 direct quotations employing these 12 examples of figurative language taken from the story. The 2 page answer KEY is provided.
