Are you ready to make descriptive writing an exciting adventure using technology for 100% student engagement? Students will be introduced to or review techniques for descriptive writing, such as similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and hyperbole. There are 52 colorful slides with modern graphics on every slide. Students will analyze writing and learn to think about the reader as they work to improve their writing skills.
The 52 slides in this flip chart offer examples of descriptive techniques and practice for students to do in whole group, small groups, with partners, or independently. There are links to videos and other internet sites that give more examples of these descriptive writing techniques. Some slides are interactive, so students can come up and highlight, move words, or write on the flip chart. Using photographs on slides, students are asked to create their own similes and metaphors. Then, they write a family metaphor poem to describe their own families.
This flip chart is a great way to begin your descriptive writing unit or use as students write a descriptive essay while incorporating technology for high levels of student engagement. It is also a great review for standardized testing as well as with ESOL classes.
