This product is composed of material needed for doing book groups using Trenton Lee Stewart's, "The Mysterious Benedict Society" (Book One). This is used for literature circles. I use it for a 6th grade accelerated literacy class. This is one of five or six other mystery novels and comes towards the end of the year. I will be putting up the same products for the other books we use and the a bundle of all these products together, eventually.
I have individual tasks and then the weekly group job for the students. I make these into booklets for in student and use the plastic binding. That is what the black and white title page is for on page 3.
Part 1 - Individual Work: Students are in charge of completing the summaries for each chapter, the vocabulary, and character profile on their own. It should be done throughout the reading, but is ultimately due at the end of the novel. The chapter summaries are a quick check for me to see if they are keeping up with the reading.
Part 2 - Weekly Jobs: Students are to organize who is in charge of what job for each week's reading. I have given a planner for them to figure out who is responsible for each meeting and who is the head investigator (since their always needs to be one) Everyone should be Head Investigator once before someone else does it twice. I have included the following jobs (their responsibilities are listed on the page that they must complete).
1. Head Investigator - Discussion Leader
2. Lead Interrogator - Quiz Questions
3. Evidence Collector - Text Evidence/Supporting a Claim
(There are four pages for this book, check the teacher notes as to why)
4.Crime Scene Sketcher - Imagery
5. Investigative Journalist - Text Connections
6. Word Judge - Figurative Language
Part 3 - Quiz and Answer Key. 10 questions, 4 multiple choice, 5 matching, and one short answer.
